The Materials Angle Grinders Can Cut

Angle Grinders can be used on loads of materials including concrete, paving stone, bricks, metal, aluminium, steel , and many more.

Can Angle Grinders cut Concrete, Paving Stones, and Bricks?

When it comes to cutting concrete it is recommended to use a grinder size of between 7-9 inches. Using a bigger grinder enables you to cut through the thicker material with more precision and it’s done more quickly. When it comes to cutting concrete, paving stones and similar items you would use a diamond cutting blade. These blades are the strongest grinder blades and have diamonds fixed on the surface of their edges. They normally have a cutting rim that the cutting process is done with them. The higher the cutting rim, the more durable they are and the longer you can use them. They are used for both dry and wet cutting operations. Metal discs are less effective on concrete because they cut slower.

Can Angle Grinders cut Metal, Aluminium, and Steel?

When it comes to cutting metal, aluminium, steel or any similar material a metal-cutting disc is recommended to be used.  Metal cut-off discs are thinner to give you that more accurate cut. This is why working with them is more dangerous. If you suddenly change the position of angle grinders or use them in a position that makes them bend, they shatter easily. The flying small parts of a shattered cutting wheel are hazardous and can result in serious damage. Therefore, you should use high-quality safety gears when working and trying to cut with an angle grinder.

Can Angle Grinders cut Wood?

Yes, angle grinders can be used to cut wood, especially when carving, sanding, abrasive, polishing, and trimming wood. It’s very important when cutting wood that you use the correct blade. A big mistake people use when cutting wood is not taking the time to choose the correct blade. Instead of using a normal blade, you should use a woodcutting blade. The main difference between these and normal blades is that wood blades only have a three-tooth cutting disc allowing the angle grinder to achieve an acceptable level of radial resistance at a rapid rotation rate. Due to the pure RPM of angle grinders, other saws like circular or Mitre saws would be recommended for large-scale wood-cutting projects.
